Luis Hernandez kept running into the same problem. As an accounting and finance graduate from Texas A&M International University, he worked across multiple industries, helping businesses manage their finances. But one question kept coming up: "Who owns what, and can you prove it?"

No one could. Not clearly. Not instantly. Ownership was buried in filing cabinets, locked in legal documents that were expensive to update, and scattered across spreadsheets maintained by different people in different ways. When Luis explored industries like real estate, where ownership is everything, the problem became even more obvious.

If real estate struggled with ownership clarity, small and mid-sized businesses had no chance.

Smart Block Island was founded in 2022 in Houston, Texas to solve that problem. The vision was clear: build the first blockchain-based platform for operational ownership, where ownership is directly connected to how money moves, how decisions are made, and how businesses scale.

Luis assembled a highly specialized team of engineers, developers, designers, and business operators from across the U.S. and around the world, each bringing unique expertise across blockchain, AI, and financial systems. They shared one belief: ownership should be as clear as a bank balance. Not locked in a PDF. Not dependent on a lawyer or CPA being available. But visible, verifiable, and always current.

Luis continues to stay deeply involved in the accounting community as a member of the TXCPA Society and the AI Committee, ensuring the platform evolves alongside the professionals it was built to serve.
